“Platoro” is Spanish for silver and gold. ‘Silver + Gold’ – plata/silver – oro/gold. Our name is the Platoro Group…

The Platoro Group originally started mid-summer of 2004. It was named after the remote wilderness town of Platoro, Colorado. This group originally was family and close friends. Now, it is a very private group of like minded individuals who search when they have the time and resources.

Anyone who becomes serious enough to search for the gold will become very familiar with this area. To this very day, it is my belief that a portion of the treasure is located between Platoro and the ghost town of Stunner. By the way, the town of Platoro is an historic mining town. It is nestled deep in the San Juan Mountains. This area has documented history of being mined for silver and gold since the early 1880s. The Spanish mined this area before the 1800s. There is active mining to this very day. At nearly 10,000 feet, it is the highest ‘man-made’ body of water in the United States. The Platoro Dam and reservoir are located northwest of the town.

For many, retreating to this area proves to be an amazing wilderness experience. It’s rugged and gritty. It includes the wonders and dangers of the “Old West”. It is like stepping back in time. However, it is remote so you should  plan accordingly. It is one of the best kept secrets of Colorado!
